The Plain View Combined School hosted its prestigious 2016 Thanksgiving Ceremony event at the Augier Evangelical Church Wednesday 6th July, 2016 to celebrate the achievements of the students of Grade 6. The Mistresses of Ceremony for the afternoon proceedings were Miss Hermione Etienne and Mrs. Anne Boodho.
The eligible students were smartly dressed in their school uniforms, as they made the walk of success to the song “Find Us Faithful.” in the presence of their families, teachers, invited guests and well-wishers, who had gathered to share in their success. Some looked nervous while others were extremely excited.
The ceremony officially began with Pastor Winston Samuel – school manager, declaring the blessings of God upon all present. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem by a teacher – Mrs. Anne Boodho. A warm and gracious welcome was extended by Mrs Nivea Fenelon shadowed by the singing of the school song “We Are Little children.”
The address from our honoured principal, Mrs. Isla Sammie reinforced the school’s theme “Maximizing My Potential” a sure asset she emphasized for success as she advised students to stay committed to their school work and triumph as successful citizens. She praised the students for their excellent performances at the Common Entrance Examinations and, encouraged them to continue to make themselves and their school proud in the future, through perseverance, commitment and enjoyment.
The guest speaker – Ms Alicia Ally spoke addressed the graduands on the theme “If you can dream it, you can do it” and kept the audience alive, as she relived exciting moments of her life as being a student. She related her many experiences as she went in search of her career choice. The Special song sang by the school choir reminded everyone present of the talent which exists among the students. The rendition by the graduands – “Conquerors” brought the house down.
The highlight of the day’s activities was the distribution of awards and certificates. Every student received a certificate of attendance as well as a token from the Parent and Teacher Association – PTA. Many certificates and awards were handed to the most outstanding in the following subject areas:
- Language Arts
- Social – Studies
- Most Helpful
- Most Improved

At the end of the ceremony, Pastor Nicholas Charles prayed for the graduands as he urged them to refer to Psalm 127:1 and commit it to memory and implant it in their hearts for reference as they continue on their journey – “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who built it labour in vain.
The vote of thanks was given by one of the graduands – Jaden Derterville followed by the announcement by the Principal. The ceremony culminated with the recessional to the song “Friends Forever” by Vitamin C. Refreshments was served after.
